Getting to grips with the defibrillator (AED)

This course explains what is at stake in cardiac arrest and the essential role of first witnesses in the chain of survival. Participants learn to identify quickly a victim in cardiac arrest, to adopt the appropriate course of action (protect, alert, rescue) and to perform effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Particular attention is paid to getting to grips with the automated external defibrillator (AED), its safe use and the application of the associated instructions. The course includes practical scenarios on manikins to allow participants to practise hands-on and to coordinate their actions while awaiting the arrival of the emergency services.
